The President Dilma Rousseff said that the “National Access to Technical Education and Employment” (Pronatec) is the biggest reform of vocational education ever made in Brazil. The project, which will offer scholarships and funding for vocational training courses, was approved last Tuesday (18) by the Senate. In the weekly Coffee with the President, Dilma said to be R$ 24 billion in investments by 2014. The government’s expectation is to create 8 million jobs in courses on technical and vocational training.”There will be 5.6 million vacancies for short courses, for the qualification of workers. Plus 2.4 million more for technical courses, se-up for high school students, with a duration of at least one year” she said. According to Dilma, 208 new units of federal institutes of Professional Education will be built – 35 of them to be delivered still this year. A partnership with Sistema S allows the expansion of free training courses for 630 thousand vacancies in 2011 already.”Additionally, we invested R$ 1.7 billion to build 176 state colleges and also in the reform, expansion and equipment purchases for other 543 units. The Pronatec will finance technical courses in private schools of professional education, as is done today with higher education, through the FIES, the Student Financing Fund, “said the president.
